Issue #6: ABRIDGE, WISeR and Public Trust in Healthcare AI: YUUKI EDGE
What you get every issue:
Three curated healthcare AI stories with my take. Companies doing the work. Skills and techniques worth knowing. And opportunities worth pursuing. No hype. Just signal.
Three things worth your time this week:
- ABRIDGE'S $316M EXTENSION TAKES TOTAL FUNDING PAST $1B
Abridge raised a $316M extension in April. Total raised: over $1 billion. Deployed at 250+ health systems including Kaiser's 24,600-physician rollout.
The headline: Ambient AI is winning.
The reality: This isn't an ambient-AI story anymore. It's a distribution story. Kaiser deployed across 40 hospitals and 600 clinics — the largest generative AI rollout in healthcare history. The technology is no longer the moat. The hospital relationships are.
My take: Whoever signs the contracts wins. The next twelve months are about which ambient vendors lock in the remaining health systems and which get bought.
Read it: https://awesomeagents.ai/tools/best-ai-healthcare-documentation-tools-2026/ - WISeR LAUNCHED — AI PRIOR AUTH IS NOW IN ORIGINAL MEDICARE
On January 1, 2026, CMS turned on AI-driven prior authorization for Original Medicare across six states.
Why it matters: Original Medicare didn't have prior auth before. Now it does. Six AI vendors — Cohere, Innovaccer, Humata, Genzeon, Virtix, Zyter — control 17 services across 6.4 million beneficiaries. House Democrats already introduced legislation to block it.
The pattern: When the public sector adopts an AI workflow, commercial follows in 12-24 months. WISeR is the regulatory bow wave for prior auth AI everywhere.
My take: This is the biggest deployment of clinical-AI-with-stakes that has ever happened. Watch the denial rates and provider experience scores. Those determine whether AI prior auth becomes standard or politically radioactive.
Full story: https://www.cms.gov/priorities/innovation/innovation-models/wiser - PUBLIC TRUST IN HEALTHCARE AI DROPPED 10 POINTS
Only 42% of Americans want AI in their care, down from 52% in 2024. Belief that AI makes care more efficient: 64% to 55%.
But here's the nuance: Trust didn't drop because AI got worse. It dropped because people learned what it actually does. The Ohio State CIO calls this the natural hype cycle. I'd call it predictable.
Why this matters for builders: If your product strategy assumes patient enthusiasm, rebuild it. The next round of healthcare AI gets adopted because it works for clinicians and shows up in outcomes — not because patients ask for it.

COMPANIES DOING THE WORK
Cohere Health — Now embedded in Original Medicare prior auth via WISeR. Watch the published payer wins.
Qualified Health — $125M growth round. Physician-CEO Justin Norden building AI deployment infra for health systems.
Hippocratic AI — Just hired Sangha MD (ex-Transcarent) and Reis MD (ex-Stanford AIMI). Senior MD operators are the new hire profile.
AI TOOLS WORTH KNOWING
Abridge — Ambient AI scribe with Linked Evidence — every note element traceable to source. The category-defining audit pattern.
Cohere Health — Agentic prior auth — built for the WISeR moment. Most directly exposed to the regulatory tailwind.
Amazon Connect Health — Five prebuilt healthcare agents for patient access, EHR, and telehealth. Deploys in days for AWS shops.
WORK & PARTNERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
Associate CMO — Hippocratic AI — Senior MD operators are now the marquee recruit for healthcare AI unicorns.
Chief Innovation Officer — Cottage Health — Mid-size systems are formalizing CINO roles. PhD path also valid.
VP/Director Cybersecurity (AI Risk) — Health systems and AI vendors — HSCC playbook + Brockton attack created acute demand.
WHAT I'M WORKING ON:
A short report on what WISeR's first 90 days actually looked like — from the vendor side and the provider side. Subscribers get it Thursday.
