Three things worth your time this week:

  1. THE AHA GRADED AN AI TOOL ON OUTCOMES, NOT ACCURACY
    The American Heart Association's new AI Assessment Lab published its first
    report, scoring Ultromics' EchoGo Heart Failure — and it barely mentions
    sensitivity.


    The headline: AI catches hidden heart failure (HFpEF) up to nine months
    earlier — 477 lives and $1.9M saved per 10,000 patients over five years.
    The reality: The story isn't the tool. It's that a trusted institution
    built a framework that judges AI on outcomes, workflow, equity and
    economics — and openly flags that these are retrospective projections
    excluding monitoring, workflow change, and false-positive costs.
    My take: This is the industrialization of "accuracy was never the
    bottleneck." When the AHA becomes the referee, benchmark-chasing dies and
    deployment reality becomes the product.

  2. TWO AI VIRTUAL-CARE ACQUISITIONS IN 48 HOURS
    Included Health agreed to buy Firefly Health on July 28; Doctronic bought
    Summer Health on July 29.
    Why it matters: Both acquirers are AI-native and both bought the same
    thing — clinical data, provider networks, and health-plan capability. Not
    models.
    The pattern: Buy-vs-build has flipped. The scarce asset isn't the
    algorithm anymore; it's the deployment substrate the algorithm needs to
    touch a patient.
    My take: The model is a commodity. The rails are the moat. That's been
    true in every enterprise software wave, and health AI just caught up.

  3. 88% OF HEALTH SYSTEMS SAY THEY'RE NOT READY FOR AI
    A Nutanix survey found 88% of healthcare IT professionals believe their
    infrastructure can't fully support the AI workloads they're racing to
    deploy.
    But here's the nuance: The blockers named — shadow AI, governance,
    containerization, hybrid infrastructure — are all deployment problems, not
    capability problems. Nobody's complaining the models aren't smart enough.
    Why this matters for builders: If 88% of your market's constraint is
    readiness, the winning product isn't a better model — it's the one that
    gets a nervous CIO to production without a governance fight.

against regulated life-sciences workflows.

AHA AI Assessment Lab — Independent outcomes/economics scoring for cardiac
and stroke AI — the neutral credentialing layer health-AI procurement has
been missing.
EchoGo Heart Failure (Ultromics) — Standard echo videos analyzed for HFpEF
— production, FDA-cleared, and directly adjacent to cardiac RPM.
DeepHealth Breast Ultrasound (RadNet) — FDA-cleared lesion detection and
reporting — proof radiology still owns the mature end of the FDA AI list.
